August - November 2005
Aurora - Enso Exchange

During 2005, Aurora took part in an exchange project with Galway-based artist group Enso, facilitated by an a-n NAN bursary. Enso members visited Edinburgh in August 2005 to take part in the event at Cell 77. Ruth Beale travelled to Galway in November 2005 to carry out a residency and participate in the Enso 'Co-Lab'.

The Collaboration Laboratory (Co-Lab) brought together fifteen practitioners from a broad range of disciplines - visual art, sound, film, dance, design and music – for a week-long workshop in Nun’s Island Art Centre. The laboratory was initiated by Enso members Andrea Fitzpatrick, Tom Flanagan, Kevin Flanagan, Maeve McElligott and Megs Morley. Other participants were Nicola Curry, Angharad Davies, Nicholas Devaney, Jacinta Fahy, Tom Plsek, and Emma Teck, Jacqueline Galvin, Emer Gillespie, and Sharon Kelly. Ruth Beale collaborated with Andrea Fitzpatrick on the production of a 'zine and film; ' Collaboration as Conversation'. The week concluded with a live art event in the arts centre on the Saturday night, and a public discussion on 'The Role of Collaboration in Contemporary Practice'. Ruth Beale took part in the panel discussion alongside Fergal Gaynor and Breda Lynch from Art / not Art (Cork) and the Co-Lab members.

The residency and travel were assisted by a Scottish Arts Council Professional Development Grant.
